Kalan soared over the grounds searching for his sister. After the meeting she had gone off somewhere and he had searched pretty much the entire castle for her. He finally found her sitting in a tree.
"May I ask what you're doing up here?" he asked.
Maya looked up at him, her expression dark.
"There's been a change of plans." she said. "I'll be leaving in a few hours."
"A few hours? Why?" Kalan asked. He was not liking where this was going.
"Something came up." Maya said. "I don't have time to explain it. Please do me a favour."
"What?" Kalan wondered.
"Gather a small team."
"What's going on Maya?"
"Like I said, I don't have time to explain."
She pulled a piece of paper from her jacket pocket.
"These are the people I want on the team." she said.
Kalan looked over the list then shoved it in his pocket.
"So what happens after I gather the team?" he asked.
"Wait for my signal." Maya replied. "Please, nobody except the people I've listed must know of this. Especially not the headmistress."
"I understand." said Kalan.
"Go back to the castle." said Maya. "If anyone asks, you haven't seen me since the meeting."
Kalan obeyed. Though he didn't agree with what she was doing, he couldn't argue with her. And he couldn't blame her. A fellow demon had been captured. To him it was like a member of his own clan had been captured. And of course, the oh so incompetent headmistress wasn't doing a d**n thing about it. Maya was only doing what had to be done.
He took one last look at her before flying off toward the castle.
